SKC Karbon has started in 1962 with the production of industrial carbon brushes. The Success of SKC Karbon in Carbon-Graphite Products

Though the tough and fluctuating conditions of the period between 1970 and 1990, it has achieved to become a qualitative and asked brand in the inland and abroad by specializing on particularly carbon brushes for the automobile industry by adding also the metal powder pressing technology to its product portfolio along with carbon-graphite material processing under the brand MEGA (Schmidthammer Elektrokohle GmbH) by following the developments according to the technology of the date regularly.

What are the Usage Areas of Graphite?
It is used at the production of pencils and the lubricating processes of moving parts due to its softness, and at the casting and refracter industry due to its resistance against heat and acids, at the manufacture of pots and laboratory materials. Black coloured fire proof dyes are generally made of graphite. It is used at the manufacture of electrodes, motor brushes, battery rods and the production of electronic devices due to its good electrical conductivity, too. Beside this is Graphite used as an additive for tyres, automobile brake linings, matches and motor oils, too.
The indfustry branches which consume graphite as a raw material are the pencil and casting industry. Dye manufacturers and iron-steel plants use imported graphite and graphite products. Fixed carbon of 60-70% is requested in the graphite used in the casting industry. This ratio is in the pencil industry more than 95%.

Adaptation of Carbon Brushes

The concordance of the brushes and rings or collector surfaces is established by the adaptation of the brushes. There are many techniques used for this process:   

1. Carbon brushes are placed into the brush holder. A stripe grinder (80-100 grit) is placed between the brush and the collector and pulled tangentially forward and backward. After the working surface of the brush sits roughly on the collector or ring surface, it is adapted by pulling the grinder only in the rotation direction of teh machine in order to give the contact surface its final shape. The brush is elevated during pulling the stripe back and thus a free passage is allowed. Thus the main situation of the brushes when the machine is running is established and the brush adaptation process is completed.  

2. Tape grinder is wrapped arround the collector or the ring and fixed at its place with an adhesive tape. Than the brushes are placed into the holder. The rotor is rotated in the running direction of the machine. (applied at medium sized machines)   

3. The carbon brushes are fixed to their positions and the machine is run unloaded, preferably at a low rotation speed. A surface cleaning stone is held in front of each brush groups and thus both the collector is cleaned and the brushes are adapted by the sand powder which penetrates in the gap. This adaptation method is particularly suitable for large DC machines. (see Fig. 2) The adaptation process is completed when nearly 70% of the brush surface is adapted to the collector / ring surface. After the adaptation process need the carbon brushes to be dismantled and the machine needs to be cleaned by blowing oil-free pressurized air inside it.

 The term "Carbon Brush" is derivated from the thin copper wire bundles used as flexible contact during the initial terms of electrical machine engineering in the industry. In the later years the term "Carbon Brush" got established by the usage of carbon and graphite materials. Carbon Brushes, which passed a development process for long years, preserve their position as the indispensible parts of electrical machine in the age of microelectronics.  The production parameters are such rich to include very different physical values and application opportunities. SIGRABOND; is a composite material with high resistance and durable 'un ürettiği yüksek dayanımda ve ısıl açıdan dayanıklı fibre in terms of temperature manufactured by the SGL Group and its product brand containing in carbon matrix established carbon fibres.
